W Cremer Roulette Wheel
This is no ordinary antique roulette wheel. This was a little-known collaboration between W Cremer and Maple & Co, both of London, for installation into a metamorphic games table (see last photo for an example). The set includes the solid wood roulette wheel and 2 green baize cloths (1 with the Cremer logo & 1 without). The centre section with numbers can be removed, and the frame sits on 3 bun feet.
Maple & Co, established in 1841, produced a wide range of high quality furniture for the elites, Aristocracy & Royalty in the UK and around the world. The company was particularly significant in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, before seeing a decline following WW2.
W Cremer of 210 Regent Street, London was famous for producing a wide range of high-end games and toys for the children of those same elites of Victorian and Edwardian society,
The wheel and baize is in great original, as found condition, and would benefit from a light polish of the brass work, and cleaning of the baize. The wheel and corresponding packing case are labelled 'Cremer', and remnants of the Maple's Depository label can also be seen on the packing case.
Roulette wheel measures: 47cm (18.5") diameter x 11cm (4.5") tall
