Folk Art Papier-mache Giraffe
A unique decorative folk art piece, believed to date from the mid 20th Century. A very large standing papier-mache figure of a Giraffe. The figure has a jaunty stance, and is wearing a brightly coloured saddle adorned with flowers, likely African or Indian in style.
The figure has had a few accidents over the years, with breaks to the ears, snout and one of the rear legs, but everything is still there, and attached. Due to the breakages, the ability to stand unassisted has been affected, so it would benefit from a simple support to display.
This was clearly a labour of love that would have taken many hours to produce, involving hours of sculpting the papier-mache to get the proportions and scale right, not to mention the addition of the saddle and flowers. All this combined with many more hours of painting in vibrant colours.
