One Off 1980s Television Hero Prop – Hand-crafted Chipperfield’s Circus Miniature
An exceptional 1980s miniature diorama of the iconic Chipperfield’s Circus Big Top Tent. Originally commissioned as the central "hero piece" for a larger commercial layout, this bespoke model was built by the professional modeling firm owned and operated by contemporary master craftsman Richard Courtenay. Designed for tight camera close-ups in the pre-CGI era, it was reportedly utilised in a 1980s television, film, or high-budget advertising production (such as the legendary Corgi Toys promotional campaigns or regional broadcast specials).
Key Features & Craftsmanship
Bespoke Marquee Facade: Features an ornate, vividly hand-painted entrance marquee sporting the classic Chipperfield’s Circus typography and traditional side-show artwork.
Studio-Grade Weathering: Unlike standard amateur hobby kits, the canvas-style blue and white big top has been meticulously and realistically "dulled" and aged by the studio to prevent glare under intense production lighting.
Intricate Rigging: Complete with hand-tied tension lines, support poles, and structural rigging, all topped with miniature Union Jack flags celebrating the circus’s British heritage.
Custom Studio Base: The model is permanently anchored to a multi-sided wedge-cut wooden display board, uniquely shaped to fit 1980s studio turntables or tracking camera dollys. It is finished with premium static grass and textured fairground dirt.
