Somerset House Architectural Model
A highly detailed hand made model of Somerset House, Strand Facade, London by Timothy Richards. These were produced in relatively small numbers and presented as book ends, but serve equally well as a decorative piece on a bookshelf, a table or a mantel. Amazing attention to detail, this is one of a small collection we recently acquired - others to follow.
Somerset House has a long history dating back to the mid 16th Century, although the current architecture shown in the model, dates from the late 18th Century, designed by Sir William Chambers, and officially completed just five years after his passing in 1796. The first occupant of the building was the Royal Academy of Arts, however the building has been used as an events space since 2000, hosting such notable events as London Fashion Week. The model has some minor signs of age and use, but still in very good condition.
