Small Georgian Domed Leather Trunk
Beautiful small antique Georgian dome topped, leather bound & studded wooden trunk, lined with red/white paper. Brass studs all over & original brass fittings, including the lock with the key. Believed to have been used on military campaigns or the Grand Tour for carrying personal/private possessions or papers.
There is a red makers' label inside the lid (see photo), but we have been unable to read the name. However, a similar trunk is attributed to J. Shepherd of Bishopsgate Street, London circa 1800. The Shepherd family business was established in 1778 & continued upto 1865.
Has leather handles on either end for carrying & a small brass handle atop for opening the lid. In very good clean condition, with signs of age and use.
Measures: 45cm wide x 25cm tall x 25cm deep
