Rare Joseph Fitter of Birmingham velvet upholstered brass cellist's stool. Dating from the late 19th/early 20th Century, this piece has a height adjustable seat using a screw mechanism. Joseph Fitter was renowned for inventing numerous different mechanisms for expanding/adjusting furniture, in particular tables and music stools. The base is cast iron and gilded to match with the brass details on the seat structure. J Fitter makers plate under the seat. In excellent original condition - just imagine it in an opulent red velvet and gold music hall or theatre setting (see pic 5 to assist your imagination) :)
