Antique religious icon that has been hand painted on paper, and applied to a curved piece of terracotta - was originally an element of a larger altar piece. The subject is St Alexander, Patriarch of Constantinople, who was Patriarch from 325 to 340 AD. A very decorative piece with beautiful details. We are not experts in religion, but this more than likely originates from the Mediterranean region near to Greece and Turkey. A lovely piece with signs of age, but in amazing condition and would probably benefit from a light clean.
