Rare surviving car plate for the Rallye Monte Carlo, dating from the 1950s. Made from aluminium with the text 'RALLYE MONTE CARLO' embossed, and the other text has been hand painted. The green plates were issued to the media and would have either been marked 'MEDIA' for the newspaper/radio crews, 'CINEMA' for the Pathe type newsreel or TELEVISION for the TV crews. This particular plate is purported to have come from Denis 'Jenks' Jenkinson, who was a very well known and respected journalist of the time (and was the navigator for Sterling Moss in the 1955 Mille Miglia, which he won). Obvious signs of age and use, but in very good condition for something around 60 years old. This is one of two 1950s Rallye Monte Carlo plates we have available - please see our other listing for details - this listing is for the green plate ONLY.
