Rallye Monte Carlo Competitor Plate

Rare surviving competitor car plate for the 1954 Rallye Monte Carlo.  Made from aluminium with the text 'RALLYE MONTE CARLO' embossed, and the text '1954' and '224' hand painted. The red plates were issued to each competitor and would have been mounted so that there was both a front and rear facing plate. This plate was issued to car number 224, which was a Ford Zephyr driven by Blumer and Curtis (see photo showing the plate attached to the top of the car). They placed 144 out of more than 300 finishers (and more than 400 starters). This plate has the manufacturer's name of Manilux, Marseille. Obvious signs of age and use, but in very good condition for something around 60 years old. This is one of two 1950s Rallye Monte Carlo plates we have available - please see our other listing for details - this listing is for the red plate ONLY.
