Antique miniature oil painting of a young boy, English circa 1800. Mounted in an Estate made frame (cut from a single piece of wood), with a gilt surround and glazed. We have been unable to confirm the identity of the sitter, but it is highly likely that it is John Crichton-Stuart, 2nd Marquess of Bute who was born in 1793 and died in 1848. The piece was gifted by Violet Stuart Wortley to the cook at Highcliffe Castle in the 1940s for her help in supporting the local children during WW2. An amazing quality piece, clearly produced by an artist of some note, but unfortunately no signature can be found.
