Queen's Own Hussars - Military Snare Drum

Vintage Rudall Carte & Co Ltd snare drum, which was presented to the 4th Queen's Own Hussars in 1931 by Lt Col. B Neame.  The date is significant because it was the year that the regiment returned from a posting in India to Aldershot. Rudall Carte & Co Ltd of Berners Street, London were known for producing top quality musical instruments, and in particular flutes.  During our research we have not been able to find another Rudall Carte & Co Ltd snare drum which makes this quite a rare beast. The company was acquired by Boosey & Hawkes in 1940. The 4th Queen's Own Hussars origins date back to 1685 but only became the Hussars in 1861. The regiment moved to India in 1921 and remained there until returning to the UK in 1931. It was amalgamated with the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars to become the Queens Royal Irish Hussars in 1958.
