Compact and bijou framed oil painting of a Mediterranean village scene. Beautifully presented in a gilt and gesso frame by A. L. Price & Sons of 8 New Street, Lancaster (original label on rear). Alfred Lovell Price established his business in 1885, but the 1861 census showed his occupation as a carver and gilder, at the tender age of just 13! Prior to establishing the business he worked for Gillows & Co, famed for making fine furniture from the early 18th Century. He moved his business to New Street in 1896, but moved again after his wife's death in 1898, so this quite accurately dates this piece between 1896 & 1898. Some losses to the gilt and gesso frame, but in very good condition for a piece that is over 120 years old.
