Gorgeous late 19th Century chromolithograph of a painting by Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Boticelli called 'La Primavera' (Spring). The original work was produced circa 1475 and is believed to have been commissioned by a member of the ruling Medici family, but it now hangs in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The painting depicts a group of figures from classical mythology, which does not appear to represent a particular story but is instead an allegory based on the lush growth of Spring. The most well known figures are Mercury, Venus, Cupid and The Three Graces, with other ancillary characters. Check out Wikipedia for an extensive description. This piece dates from circa 1888 and is in excellent condition, mounted in an original ebonised frame.
