Herbert Brighton Ventriloquist Dummy

Vintage Herbert Brighton ventriloquist dummy. Made from papier-mache, wood and leather, and it would at one time have had an outfit from 'Sign of Four Magic Emporium' located on Derby Road in Nottingham as there is a small label inside the body - this was also the home of the Nottingham Guild of Magicians. This figure dates from the 1940s, and he has wooden hands, papier-mache feet and head, with leather chin, and of course a lively red 'fro hair style.  Herbert Brighton, who lived in Pitsea, Essex would perform under the stage name of Benson Grey from the 1920s until the 1950s, and passed away in the early 1960s.  Good condition with a few minor scars commensurate with age and use, but the eye and mouth mechanisms are fully functional.

Measures: 95cm tall x 35cm wide x 20cm deep
