Set of 6 rare antique French plaster gargoyle monk match holders dating from circa 1880. Each figure depicts one of the seven deadly sins (Lust, Gluttony, Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth & Greed), but one is missing. These wall hanging match holders were usually found individually with a 7 headed pipe rack of a similar design. This collection of 6 has been acquired over a number of years of searching by the previous owner. Each head has a small metal hook for wall hanging, and could equally be used as small candle holders. Some of the heads have minor chips/marks as you would expect of something made from a fragile material, and dating from almost 150 years ago! Please note that Nova is shown in the 1st image for scale only - she is most definitely NOT included in the price.
Each figure measures approx: 8cm high x 5cm wide x 8cm deep
