Antique educational wall hanging poster, produced by A Brown & Sons Ltd, for the Browns School Series of posters - dates from circa 1915. This is one of the First Series, Sheet No 18. The images are taken from the book 'Illustrations of Object Lessons arranged by Vincent T. Murche' first published in 1901. A Brown & Sons Ltd was established in the mid 1800s, and by 1911 had factories in London, Hull and York, which is when they established a School Stationary Manufacturing Department. The poster depicts the working conditions in the coal mines of the 19th Century, and features the Davy Lamp (invented in 1815). Still has the original dowels. Obvious signs of age and use, but an amazingly rare survivor from over 100 years ago.
