Counter-top Grip Test Trade Stimulator

Counter-top, old penny play Grip Test trade stimulator manufactured by Samson of England, and retailed by Ruffler & Walker. This one came from Kursaal Theme Park in Southend-on-Sea. The venue was opened in 1894 by father and son Alfred and Bernard Wiltshire Tollhurst, on four acres of land purchased the previous year, as the 'Marine Park and Gardens'. In 1901, they opened a grand entrance pavilion, called the Kursaal, designed by Campbell Sherrin, containing a circus, ballroom, arcade, dining hall and billiard room.

In original, unrestored condition.  Rear lock and Ruffler & Walker label missing (see photos), and the spring needs replacing for the grip test mechanism to work. That said it displays really well and is a great talking piece. Rare find.

Measures: 46cm high x 23cm wide x 24cm deep (+ 11cm for the grip mechanism)
