Original vintage Chinese advertising poster/calendar dating from circa 1920/1930. Influenced by the Art Deco movement in Western countries, these posters became symbolic of the Chinese appetite for aspirational products in the early 20th Century.....in particular in Shanghai which was, and still is, the centre for trade. The more popular products were cigarettes and cosmetics, but the same advertising style was used for promoting such mundane products as fertiliser! This particular poster is signed by the artist (see photo) and melds the meticulous detail of traditional Chinese painting with the craft of colour lithography. The poster has a metal strip top and bottom to protect the edges, and is in very good condition with only minor wear marks to the sides.
