Pair of large late 19th century hand-carved wooden Chinese foo dog figures. Remnants of red lacquer and gilt decoration still visible. Matching pair with the female (with cub) and male (with ball). According to the teachings of Feng Shui, there is a right and a wrong way to position the foo dogs, the female should be to the left and the male should be to the right (as pictured). Excellent condition for age.
