Gallaher Ltd Framed Advertisement

1 item left

Early Gallaher Ltd advertising print for the 'Rich Dark Honeydew' range of smoking tobacco in 1, 2 & 4 oz tins. This beautiful example, although depicting a 19th Century character, dates from the early 20th Century. The lacquered wood frame has some minor issues, but this just adds to the charm. The real beauty of this advertising is that it does not mention tobacco or smoking at all, and so has a much greater appeal as a decorative item. The Gallaher company was established in 1857 in Derry, Ireland, and by 1896 had opened the world's largest tobaccco factory in Belfast. Throughout the 20th Century, the company acquired a number of brands around the world before itself being acquired by Japan Tobacco in 2007 (the largest ever foreign acquisition in Japanese history).
