Dating from the early 19th Century, this piece would look equally as impressive as a hall table, or a centre/dining table. There is a long drawer along one side, and the carved frieze details have been carefully matched so the table looks great from all angles.

Each corner of the table has a carved lion head and the feet are formed from mythical beasts. The main figures appear to be Merlions (winged lions with fish tails). The legs are joined by a very ornately carved stretcher. A round textured art glass plate is suspended beneath the bulbs to provide a lovely glow to the room (and conceal the bulbs). The German company Gebr. Kaiser & Co Leuchten KG was formed in 1895 in Neheim by Hermann Kaiser. Originally a lighting parts manufacturer, the company expanded into the production of lights and lamps in the inter-war period and despite the factory being destroyed in WW2, it was rebuilt and soon became one of the largest producers. Particularly well known for midcentury styles, through collaborations with Christian Dell (Kaiser Idell brand work lights) and Bauhaus, the brand was acquired in the 1970s by Thorn. The chairs are constructed from a tubular chromed frame, with a black lacquered metal mesh shell seat and padded arm rests. These are the original, first series of this design icon, dating from circa 1982. They do have some minor signs of age and use but this does not detract in any way from the stylish, functional and timeless beauty of the set. The chairs are stackable, although why anyone would not want them on display at all times is beyond us :) Beautiful chairs and unusual to find the 1st series.

Please note:
1.
