Very large and rare anatomy poster detailing the Abdomen & Thorax section of the human body. Printed on linen-backed paper by Mclagan & Cumming Lithographer of Edinburgh for St Andrews Ambulance Association and used in the Cowdenbeath Ambulance Section (see stamps to front and rear). St Andrews' charity was established in 1904, so this poster would date from circa 1905-10. Obvious signs of age and use, but a rare survivor in good, displayable condition with the original support bars.
The original lithographer was established in 1872, but following the death of the founder (Mr McLagan), the business was operated by his son for a few years before he joined with Mr Cumming to form the McLagan & Cumming Lithographer company. The new business was formed around 1900 and was famed for its colourful War Bond posters during the Great War encouraging the general public to buy the bonds to support the war efforts. The company produced many large scale posters and educational resources during its life, which came to an end in the early 1960s. In 1965 the building became the Lady Haig Poppy Factory, and it still exists to this day, and is classed as a Category C listed building.
